SOIL AND EROSION CONTROL SOLUTIONS   Recognizable by its bright green color along highways and on construction sites, hydromulch is a relatively new application technology for the simultaneous disbursement of grass seed, fertilizer and erosion-controlling ingredients through a hose. The mulch in hydromulch is composed primarily of wood and cotton byproducts.
Our Porfolio Includes Commercial, Public and Governmental Projects - D.Watson Austin/San Antonio/New Orleans LOUISIANA  Five years after Hurricane Katrina when flood waters from Lake Ponchartrain devastated New Orleans, engineers have designed a flood protection plan and hydromulch is part of the equation. 50 major New Orleans levee breaches resulted from foundation-induced failures. The remainder were caused by a combination of overtopping and erosion of earthen levees due to wave and water friction. Wave and water friction protection will be added to the New Orleans levees in the form of armoring, which protects earthen levees from erosion. That protective armor will be well-established grass and the Corps of Engineers plans to use hydromulch.

One of the erosion control technologies that D.Watson Companies uses and recommends for soil stabilization and seeding methods is hydromulching. This is very different from hydroseeding, which often has less productive results. Hydroseeding is a blend of paper-based fiber, seed, and soil amendments. The paper-based combination can be susceptible to washout and degrades rapidly in sunlight.
Hydromulch is a more advanced material matrix. It uses a recycled wood or cotton fiber, which is longer, coarser, and more structurally stable material than paper. Combined with advanced polymers, this matrix greatly increases soil stabilization and promotes vegetation growth. Because no foreign or weed-seed is introduced, the final product is of very high quality, making it a very attractive solution.
